Minutes to the Meeting 3/2/08

1. This was the next to the last meeting of the season and we had our food fest. Bob did a wonderful job of providing all the goodies. Jim wanted to thank him and extend our debt of gratitude for all his hard work. Thank you Bob.

2. Eastover is the last week in June, the 23rd – 29th.

4. March 16 is the next NNH meeting in Troy , N.H.- www.natnh.com

5. Free visit goes to Paul, and Lee won the new issue of N magazine.

6. Birthdays are Phil, Vanessa, Mike and Junior. Best wishes to all.

7. Last, and most important, is the nominations of officers. Use the ballot in this newsletter to vote or write in someone. The ballots can be mailed to our P. O Box or brought to the next meeting April 6th when they will be counted. The following have been nominated:

Letter From The President
 
Another great season is coming to a close. Thank you all for making our club successful. We all make the club what it is, and are fortunate that we have varied mix of couples, singles and kids. As we look forward to the summer Wayne and I will be at Eastover again for The Naturist Society gathering from June 23 thru June 29. We are in the VW Vanagon parked under the trees with the Maine Coast Solar Bares sign on the side. Stop by and say “Hi” …… as long as it’s not too early for us “party people” who close the dance at night. It would be good to get together Saturday afternoon for cocktails if anyone is interested. Since Eastover is a dry place, bring your favorite beverage. Come and take advantage of the workshops, people, games, dancing, buffalos, sports, food, swimming, local color and fun, fun, fun. We can not say enough good things about the experience. We had nearly two dozen Solar Bares at the resort last year. Some stay the whole week, like us. Others stay for a few days. Check into it and ask us or the Naturist Society any questions.

Bob’s Bits
 
44 members and guests, including one family attended our February 3, 2008, Gathering. Club-provided sandwich-making ingredients. Including the 11 types of soda and fruit juices provided, $81.92 of MCSB Treasury funds were spent. The pool was a comfortable 80F for lots of activity, and Jacuzzi was a relaxing 103F. The Food Fest at our upcoming March Gathering, at which ALL food, desserts, and drinks will be provided by the club, was announced. Surprisingly, there were NO birthday announcements. Tom C., of Naturist New Hampshire, announced the NNH March 16, Gathering in Troy , NH . He donated a copy of NNH’s ’Living Great’ DVD to the club. Everyone was reminded that we will hold nominations at the March Gathering for Vice President, Secretary, and two Board positions; and one can self-nominate. Gene C. won the Free Gathering Visit Coupon. We gained one new member at this Gathering. Welcome Joe!

A record number of 55 members and guests attended our March 2, 2008, Gathering! The pool was set at 82F and the Jacuzzi at 103F. The Food Fest went well. Gatherers created their own sandwiches and for side dishes there was macaroni and potato salads ... with veggies and dessets also. $165.44 of MCSB Treasury funds were well spent. Lee H. & Chris brought a big birthday cake to share with the group and celebrate Lee and Ashley’s birthdays. Many member birthdays were announced and cheered. Nominations were held: Harry D. as Vice President, Chris B. as Secretary re-elect, and Wayne D. and Nancy M. to continue as Board Members. Paul G. won the Free Gathering Visit Coupon. The MCSB’s gained a new member-couple today; welcome Phil & Lynne! And also, welcome back Walter C. As your Treasurer, I am pleased to report a healthy Treasury balance of $6,877.28 as of March 10, 2008.

We had about two dozen Solar Bares at Eastover last year. Try to attend if you can June 23rd thru June 29th. Whether camping or tenting or staying in a room, it’s a wonderful experience for any nudist. And it’s very kid-friendly, with programs offered by the staff, morning and afternoon. Greetings Solar Bares and friends, A late summer hello and wishes that your summer was fun and nude. It has been fairly quiet naturist-wise since Eastover with a couple of small house parties and friends for this couple. Although this season's end is never looked forward to, it does bring us closer to our monthly swims starting in November. I also want to mention sad news. Out of respect to the families, we have delayed announcing that we have lost two members over the past year. Robyn of Skip & Robyn and Don of Don & Jan have both passed away. They were both active members of the club and left us much to soon
 
As we approach the first meeting of our club. I’m looking forward to our next season of fun and friendship. Since summer in New England is so short, it is nice to have a place to “be“ for the rest of the time. I hope to see all of you healthy and happy and ready to approach the winter.

Our April 1, 2007 Gathering was well attended by 44 members and guests. Jim L. arrived early and helped Bob C make four dozen chicken salad club rolls. A variety of meats and cheese and four types of bread were provided for “create-your-own” sandwiches. A thirsty group consumed all 13 two liter bottles of soda and fruit juices. $72.58 of MCSB Treasury funds sere spent. Your dues money at work. Mike S generously provided a meat and cheese party platter. A fruit plate was also provided by a gatheree. Jacuzzi and pool temperatures were agreeable to all. April birthday announcements were made. Deb H and Laurel D. graciously tallied the ballots.

Mike S. was drawn as the winner of the donated Lake Como Club t-shirt. Wayne D brought a box full of give-away things from The Naturist Society. Gatheree names were drawn; MCSB members chose a t-shirt. Non-members were given their choice of the other items. Chris and Laurel D. won the free Gathering Visit Coupon. Bob C. set the 2007-2008 gathering schedule with Brad, the manager. Gatherings will be on the FIRST Sunday of each month from November thru April. Brad said that the owner is raising the monthly day fee for the use of the pool/Jacuzzi complex to $450 due to the increased cost of heating oil. To soften the impact of the increased monthly Gathering expense, she increased our Gathering time to 4.5 hours. She is pleased with our group’s use of the facilities. It would make sense for our gathering time to be from 12:30 to 5:00, so Bob C will plan to be prepared to greet gatherers at 12:20 p.m. As your MCSB Treasurer, I am pleased to report a healthy Treasury balance of $6,272.93 as of April 30, 2007.

There is a restaurant in Greenville which said that if one were willing to jump naked into Moosehead Lake, the person would be given a free “skinny-dipper sandwich”. Someone became upset at the idea. It was not reported whether the complainer was upset with the idea of people getting naked, skinny dipping, the restaurant offering free sandwiches, or all of the above. It did make the national news, however. It has now been reported that the owner of the restaurant is NOT going to withdraw the offer. If one is willing to jump naked into Moosehead Lake , you’ll get the free sandwich. If the person doing the complaining, however, is so offended with even the idea of a body being naked, it seems to me that person must shower or bathe in some kind of covering with offends me! I mean how clean can you get if you stand under the running water with clothes on. The soap can’t get near or skin. I am upset with the idea of all these people who are offended by the idea of nudity being somewhat dirty. I mean really.
 
Your editor managed a somewhat naked summer. I sailed a fair amount without the benefit of cloth – not entirely true, the sails are made of cloth. I suppose the boat is too, being fiberglass, but there was little or nothing on my skin. My organic, seamless, tan wasn’t too bad. I was talking to a friend who had been to her dermatologist and was complimented on the fact that she had no tan-lines, as many of her patients did. I said that I knew a lot of people for whom the words “no tan lines” meant something completely different. Knowing my tendency to do without clothes, she understood my meaning and laughed. Summer 2007

Meeting April 1, 2007

1. Bob wished everyone a happy birthday for the month of April.

2. Bob gave away a Lake Como T-shirt he had had for awhile but never used.

3. The free visit went to Joan.

4. The Naturist Society was kind enough to give us a box of goodies. The contents ranged from T-shirts, sun glasses and message clips to paper cutters etc. Names were picked at random for people to take what they wanted.

5. The last item is the results of the election. Chris was re-elected president, Christopher and Mike are on the board and Bob was re-elected as treasurer for another term.

A big thank you for everyone who voted me in again as president. We certainly have an active club with great members. I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer enjoying all of the nudist places and activities that we have available here in New England. Wayne and I look forward to seeing many of you at Eastover and the rest at our next meeting in November.

March 2007

Next month's pool party will be on April 1 (no fooling) from 1pm until 5pm at our Ogunquit location. We had 50 members and visitors at our March Food Fest. Nothing like a great meal to bring out nudists! This was our best-attended pool party of the season and we all appreciated the escape from these brutal temps.

We will also be presenting some information on the Eastern Naturist Gathering which occurs in June. The Naturist Society has provided us with some giveaways and prizes. Note that the site, as of March 14th, was under construction; but the registration form was working. We have a number of Solar Bares attending and welcome even more, particularly if you tent/camp or can come early in the week. The President and I will be there from Monday thru Sunday, though many attend only a portion.

1. The best part of the meeting was food fest that Bob provided which probably was the reason for our huge crowd. He did his usual stellar job. Lots to eat and many great deserts ..oink, oink. We do love to eat. Thank you Bob.

2. Someone suggested that Wayne include info about the web site in next months meeting reminder. We are able to put information immediately on the site which may include cancellation due to weather etc., so please check it out occasionally. We will be placing summer events there also.

3. Next month is election of two officers and two board members. Ballots will be sent out in the newsletter and will be counted at the next meeting.

Treasurer's report

Greetings Everyone. A record 55 members and guests, including one family, attended our March 4, 2007 gathering! With a total of 48 seats around the pool/Jacuzzi, it was handy that a few people left early making room for other arrivees. Bob C. and Harry D. arrived at 11:20 and unloaded the car. Jim L. arrived at 11:45 to assist with food preparations. The Food Fest went well! Greg C. spoke about the Eastern Naturist Gathering, June 18-24, 2007, at Eastover Resort in Lenox , MA . He provided an event brochure. More information is available from The Naturist Society at 1-800-VACA-FUN. New members, Mary & Roger L, who joined that day, were welcomed. Thanks go to all who attend the Gatherings and support the group.

February 2007

Another excellent and so relaxing pool party was had on February 4th. We had a great turnout with more than 40 nudists in attendance .... both couples and singles. The draw of the perfect hot tub and friendly gathering drew the crowd in spite of (or maybe because of) the cold temperatures and pre-Super Bowl shows.

            Harry won the FREE visit the next time he attends. Chris & Wayne won a MCSB sweatshirt. Don & Jan won the special prize drawing!!

            At our next event, March 4th, we have our Cabin Fever Food Fest where we will provide snacks, sandwiches, salads, and deserts, along with soda and juices. Once again we meet from 1pm to 5pm at our southern Maine motel. Please write for directions.

Also next month we will have nominations for: President, Treasurer, and 3 Board positions. All members are welcome to be nominated.

The Bare Naked Mainers group that has bowling in Old Town has been getting national press. A number of our own members have partaken and our own Mike R. was featured prominently in photos. AANR’s last press release featured a story about it.

38 members and guests attended our Jan. 4, 2007, Gathering.  The inside lights were turned on for us before we arrived.  Herman D. brought 14 issues of the Summer, 2006 TNS magazine to give away to those interested. He also brought two small, blue TNS key-chain bottle openers won by drawing. The pool and jacuzzi temperatures were an agreeable 81F and 101F, respectively.  Both pool and jacuzzi were a magnet to many. Mike to his shock and disbelief won the free visit.

December 2006

42 members and guests attended our December gathering.  Harry had the opportunity to get his exercise swimming laps in the pool before it filled with people.  2006-2007 event cards were again available.  Wayne D. addressed the group about options for the (new) name for our website.  There was lots of robust and exuberant activity in the pool by members.  The pool temperature was comfortable, but the Jacuzzi could have been about five degrees warmer.  Bob C. will request this of CVR manager Brad for January and subsequent gatherings.  Kurt K. won the free visit coupon.  MCSB members who belong to TNS, The Naturist Society, please note that annual TNS dues are only $48.00.  Actual TNS dues are $53.00.

November 2006

40 members and guests, including two families, attended our November Gathering.  Information was provided to the group about the naked bowling II event in Old Town.  Erica J. presented a gift from Rich and Gail F. to John S. to celebrate his birthday.  Wallet sized MCSB Schedule Event cards created by our TMB editor, JDL, were made available to those attending.  Temperatures of both Jacuzzi and pool were comfortable.  Christopher and Laurel D. won the free visit coupon..

This just in!  On Tuesday 30 January, there was a front page article in the Bangor Daily News (A picture of the blacked out butt of our own Michael R was prominent.) about the naked bowling in Old Town which was reported to police by a man who expressed upsetment with the party. The fact that he had to open two sets of doors that were covered with paper and sported signs saying that there was a private party happening was also reported.  Nothing was found out of order by the police or the courts.  What happens now, of course, will be of interest.  Will Old Town try to pass anti-naturist ordinances as Orono did after the three girls streaked?   Hessa was interviewed for the article and features in it. And Friday February 2, the Portland Press Herald featured a FRONT PAGE story on the event. It was done with a slight snicker, but it was not negative so we’ll take it.

The price of heating oil being what it is, I have taken to a somewhat unnaked life.  Bother.  I did turn up the heat a bit so that I could be properly unattired while producing this issue of TMB.  In order to fold and stuff, I’ll light a fire.  Warmth should creep back into our corner of the world in another month or so.  Sigh.

Just a reminder that in the upper right corner of the mailing label is either the abbreviation of a month or a month.  That is the anniversary of your membership.  Bob would be very happy if you might automatically send in your dues so that he doesn’t have to work quite so hard. 

In March Nominations will be submitted for the President and Treasurer of The Maine Coast Solar Bares. Chris has said that she would be interested in continuing as President.  Bob has volunteered to be Treasurer again.  Two board members will have to be nominated also.  Harry and Michael can be re-elected if they choose to be nominated again.

Because your editor and publisher found himself cleaning and painting rowboats, oars, and other maritime pursuits, as well as acquiring the beginning of an organic, seamless, tan, he did not rouse himself from his sloth enough to put out a final TMB of last season.  Hence, much of the material in this issue will be old stuff to most of you.  Sorry about that.

The minutes of the meeting of 4/2/06:
 
1. Bob mentioned that TNS has increased their dues to $53.00.  Keep in mind that the club gets $5.00 back for each membership through MCSB, which we, then, give back to the members. 
2.  Naturist N.H. is trying to get an outing together.  They had gone there last year for a weekend.  It would be the first weekend in May.  Prices have gone up so they need a head count of interested people.  They can be reached at nude@natnh.com. 
3.  We received a newsletter from the Naturist Action Committee regarding the Cape Cod Beach Clean-up.  It is Saturday, June 10 and the rain date is the 11th.  They do need a head count in advance to have services available.  Free visit goes to Marcus W.
5.  The ballots were counted and Stan was re-elected Vice-President.  Chris was elected Secretary.  Nancy and Wayne were both re-elected to the board.  The voting was unanimous.
6.  Wayne thought it would be nice to have some type of summer outing for the club.  We’ll see what we can come up with.  If anyone has any ideas let us know.  Unfortunately our only realistic way of notification is by e-mail.
7  A mention was made of the Eastern Naturist Gathering in Lenox , MA .  This wonderful event is the last full week of June and is attended by nudists throughout the country.  Many of our Solar Bares will be there to enjoy the many activities.  Some will attend the whole week, others for a weekend.

Bob’s Bits:
27 members and guests attended our April 6, 2006 Gathering, and it appeared at all had a good time.  The MCSB’s gained two new members, one in April and one in May.  Bob set the upcoming Gathering dates with Brad on April 28th.  The dates will be easy to remember: the First Sunday of the month.  The final gathering will be held on
April Fools Day.  As Treasurer, Bob will plan to provide some type of staple food at each Gathering to supplement the goodies that members and guests bring for the food table, i.e., sandwich ingredients – meats, cheeses, breads, finger rolls; or Bob will buy finger rolls, fillings, and prepare the finger rolls at  prior to the gathering.  This will add to prep time prior to the gathering, but Bob and Harry will plan to arrive  early enough to be ready for the Gathering attendees at 12:45 p.m..  Board members and Officers agree that this will be welcome addition for Gathering supporters.  Your treasury dollars will be working for you.  We’ll try this and see how people like it.  The food is NOT intended to replace, but to supplement the wide variety of goodies that people bring.  PLEASE continue to contribute to the food table as you all have been so kindly doing.

The Naturist Society Gathering at Eastover was held once again in June. As usual it was a wonderful experience. We had about a score of MCSB members and visitors in attendance. We (President and spouse) displayed the banner proudly and always get a few inquiries about the club. Next year is the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Naturist Gathering occurring at Eastover. I suspect the resort will be making it special for us.

On the mailing label you will find somewhere to the right of your name either the name of a month or the abbreviation.  This indicates when your membership should be renewed.  It would be a great kindness if you would take the initiative of renewing without Bob having to remind you.  Thanks.
